The Montgrí, Medes Islands and Baix Ter Natural Park was established in 2010, joining the three areas which define the Catalan coastline. The areas comprise the Mongrí massif, the Illes Medes with it's ecologically significant seabed and the wetlands of the river Ter. Together, they form a unique landscape worth protecting. Some of the Montgrí, Medes Islands and Baix Ter Natural Park's special features include historical relicts such as ancient traces of human life in cavities, as well as ecologically relevant species that can be found all around the area. One of the noteworthy species is the Posidonia sea grass which forms unique seabed landscapes adjacent to the coast hosting numerous other species.
